I choose tacos – all day, err day!
Tacofest Returns to Panther Island Pavilion.
In honor of Cinco de Mayo, Fort Worth Weekly is hosting their second annual El Fuerte Taco Festival on Saturday, May 6. Once again, The Shack at Panther Island Pavilion will be busting at the seams with taco enthusiasts and those that tolerate their obsession. It’s very un-Texan, but hey there are a few here. Last year’s inaugural event was a sell-out and nothing short of awesome. It is evident that Cowtown loves their tacos.
Tickets are still available and are priced from $15 for the kiddos to $30 for us grown-ups. Or opt for the VIP taco experience for $50 per person, which includes unlimited samples, swag bag, air conditioned tent, bathrooms and more. Beer and margaritas will be available for purchase.
The first round of participating restaurants have been announced (drumroll please). And from The Fort is Tortaco, a shiny new taco joint across from Fred’s Texas Cafe in the West 7th area. Tortaco, by the way, also makes a pretty darn good mac and cheese. Look for it on their appetizer menu. Downtown’s newest South of the border-inspired restaurant, Wild Salsa will be serving up samples of the tasty treat too, as will World of Beer. Strange maybe, but who cares? We love beer and there will be plenty of it flowing at El Fuerte, but tacos have our heart. Dallas restaurants include the Rusty ‘R’ Taco joint off Harry Hines Blvd. and Gas Monkey Bar & Grill. Other taco vendors include Magdalena’s, Reservoir-Bar, Patio & Kitchen, Justice Burger, TEXAS BLEU and Salsa Limon.
For those looking for a healthier alternative, Blue Zones will be on hand from 2-3pm for cooking demonstrations. Chef Juan Rodriguez, formerly of Reata Restaurant will be constructing fresh tacos made with Blue Zone approved ingredients. Look for more taco artisans to be announced this week.
